Save $1.50 per bottle (90 capsules) while stock lasts. Expiry date on this product is June 2009, so if you can use 90 capsules before July 1st, this is the time to buy a top quality product that’s been lab tested to assure purity and strength. Tip: The more you buy, the less expensive shipping costs become per bottle. Consider this if you’re currently using our vitamin E 200 IU or 400 IU and shop accordingly so you can save even more money. Note: We will continue offering vitamin E 100 IU in the future. This is a clear-out price to make room for stock due to arrive over the next few months.
Recipe of The Month 1. Use a kitchen scale. Cups measure volume rather than weight (a cup of feathers is not equal to a cup of gravel). 2. All weights are noted as the yield (what each must weigh after it’s been cooked) 3. Substitutions of other meats may be made now and then, but the diet is meant to be fed as written. Feeding other meats changes the nutrient profile of the diet including calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. 4. Vegetables have been selected based on the fact that green, yellow and orange vegetables have been shown to help prevent cancer. Therefore, they are adding antioxidants and phytochemicals as well as fiber. You can skip the carrots and green beans or substitute other vegetables without impacting the vitamin and mineral profile of the diet enough to affect a dog. The potato must remain as written. 5. Be sure that vegetables are boiled well and/or mashed. Dogs will not digest chunks of vegetables well. You may feed both green beans and carrots raw, however, the need to pulverize them remains. Potatoes must be boiled well. 6. Other than manganese which can be found in health food stores, the supplements in this diet are from my site. You are not obligated to buy anything from me, but since I can’t possibly know what you have access to or the purity of all supplements on the market, I use my own. Please look at my site and jot down what each supplement contains if you choose to purchase elsewhere. Obviously using items with different nutrient profiles changes the diet and is highly likely to unbalance it. 7. This diet is for a 30-pound moderately active, healthy dog. A dog’s nutrient requirements are not linear to body weight. That is, a 60-pound dog does not have double the requirement of a 30-pound one. Therefore, feeding more or less of this diet as might be required to suit your own dog’s ideal weight does not guarantee that the diet will meet nutrient requirements per the NRC. In this case, you can start by feeding the diet below, but please read Optimal Nutrition and/or join me on the Yahoo group, K9Kitchen. That’s where we offer a step-by-step exercise in our files that will help you create a diet. 8. This diet calls for 1/3 eggshell per day. The easiest way to go about this is to bake a shell in the oven (about 250-300 degrees) for a couple of minutes. Let it cool. Turn it into a powder by using a coffee grinder, herb grinder, or mortar and pestle. Use the entire amount of powder over a 3 day period.
Per Day Unless Noted Otherwise:
Some Tips Most dogs do best when dietary changes are made gradually. Rather than cooking daily, make enough food to last one week. Add bone meal, eggshell, magnesium, manganese, kelp and zinc, and freeze in daily portions. Thaw in the fridge, and warm with water, in microwave, (be careful about hot spots created!), on top of stove, or serve cold if your dog isn’t fussy. Weigh the amount of raw food, and weight it again after cooking. Now that you know how much raw food is required to achieve the amount of cooked food in the recipe, you can save time by not having to weigh each cooked food when making every batch. However, periodically checking this again makes sense because foods vary in their moisture and fat content, causing more or less shrinkage as well. B vitamins can upset an empty stomach. Tuck ¼ tablet in hand-held food that will be fed as a treat. Consuming large amounts of magnesium at one sitting can loosen stool. Mix this supplement into food very well to assure that your dog will not be receiving a large amount at one meal. Wild salmon oil, cod liver oil and vitamin E should not be frozen or heated. Add these to food just before feeding. Many dogs will gulp the capsules down. If your dog does not, simply snip the capsule open and squeeze out the contents. Disclaimer: This generic diet is not intended to treat disease and may not be suitable for dogs with food allergies or sensitivities. Dogs with sensitivity to dietary fat should not be fed this diet. Consult your veterinarian before implementing dietary changes. Monica
